Supporting Dr. Ketterl’s Research
Only 8% of National Institute of Health (NIH) funding supports pediatric cancer research. Without philanthropy most pediatric cancer research would not be possible.
The funds received in 2024 will be directed to Dr. Tyler Ketterl’s research. In July of 2018, Dr. Ketterl joined the faculty at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington. Dr. Ketterl’s work currently focuses on the long-term impact of cancer therapy on adolescent and young adult survivors of cancer. Our funds will support Dr. Ketterl’s team and their research in germ cell tumors and fertility preservation methods.
The funds raised from the Friends for Life Guild will help advance research in germ cells and rare cancers, specifically and more immediately in germ cell tumors by supporting biostatistical support of germ cell tumor research conducted through the MaGIC Consortium. The Malignant Germ Cell International Consortium (MaGIC) is a global consortium of pediatric oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, testicular cancer specialists, surgeons, pathologists, epidemiologists, statisticians, bioinformaticists, and biomedical scientists. This group brings together the world’s leading experts in germ cell tumors (GCTs), from across the spectrum of cancer research, with the shared goal of developing more effective treatments for GCTs through scientific inquiry. Dr. Tyler Ketterl is the Chair of the Clinical Research and Publications committee where he oversees the development, scope, and utilization of MaGIC’s shared Data Commons, pre-reviews MaGIC data analysis proposals before they are sent to the Executive Committee and oversees manuscript development and timelines. https://magicconsortium.com/magic-overview/committees/
