History of Friends for Life Guild Fundraising

Since 2006, Friends for Life Guild has worked with local Washington glass artists to develop unique and beautiful hand-blown glass ornaments. for the past several years, we have been working with Art by Fire in Issaquah, Washington. Each year we significantly grow ornament sales, with all proceeds benefiting Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

In 2008, we have proudly added a new group of dedicated volunteers to our organization – The Eastern Washington Chapter of the Friends for Life Guild. We hosted our first annual Finaghty’s Friends for Life Fall Fest, and we upgraded our website to enable on-line ordering.

In 2009, we grew donations by 40% and surpassed our goal of $50,000 in donations; hosted a successful auction at our Finaughty’s Friends for Life Fall Fest, and continued to grow our ornament sales. Our cash donations are continue to grow. All of this in an economy where donations overall were down by over 3% – the largest decline in over 50 years.

In 2010, we founded the Cancer Advocacy Network (CAN) with several of our cancer research funding partners. Our goal is to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) each year, driving funding for childhood cancer research. For more information on the CAN, please see http://www.seattlechildrenscan.org

In 2011 and 2012, we held a Beer, BBQ and Casino night at Georgetown Brewery.  We had a fantastic time and we shared information about childhood Cancer.  Our guild mission is to raise funds to support Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital and to raise awareness about Childhood Cancer.  We feel very confident that we are doing both.

Over the past several years, we have been thrilled to have the support of local businesses and families.  In 2013, we were blessed to have the support of Slalom Consulting.  Nationwide offices for Slalom purchased over 2300 Emerson votives.  We were able to give Emerson’s doctor $23,000 to fund her Neuroblastoma research.

We continue to focus on our ornament and votive sales, as well as spread the word about Childhood Cancer and the need for research funding.

Many thanks to our loyal and generous supporters who have attended our events, purchased our ornaments and continue to spread the word about Friends for Life Guild.
